Joseph Albert Mario Ross was born on the 16th day of August, 1956, in Asbestos, Québec.

Began Shotokan Karate Training in February of 1972 under
Sensei Michel Tremblay of St-Jean d'Iberville, Québec.
While under his guidance, Mario also learned the use of Oriental Weapons (Nunchaku-Sai-Tonfa)

Sensei Mario Ross, Sensei Ary Anastasiadis and Sensei Pierre Joyal  (1976)

From 1975 to 1979, Mario trained under Sensei Ary Anastasiadis who is credited for bringing the Japan Karate
Association in Québec in the early 50's. Under his guidance, Mario also learned Aikido.

On October 10th, 1976, Mario is promoted to the Black Belt 1st degree level. (Fédération Québécoise de Karaté -
F.Q.K.), and Black Belt 2nd degree on October 1979.
A motor vehicle accident in Montreal (1979) was responsible for putting aside his karate training for almost 2 years.
(Meanwhile, Sensei Anastasiadis leaves Canada for Japan and teaches at the Shotokan Karate International
Headquarters headed by Master
Hirokazu Kanazawa 8th degree Black Belt at the time, now 10th degree)

In 1982, Mario joins the Shotokan Karate International Québec branch. Mario also started Judo Training with Sensei
Guy Naud, 2nd degree Black Belt, in Windsor, Québec.

Mario has karate schools in Asbestos and Windsor (Québec) while one of his senior student (Sylvain Lagaçé) has
schools in Sherbrooke and Valcourt (Québec).

In 1987, Mario joins the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (R.C.M.P.) and get transferred to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on
February 1988.

In March of 1989, Yarmouth's very first Shotokan Karate club opens it`s doors under his leadership.

In November of 1990, the Yarmouth Dojo joins the International Shotokan Karate Federation (I.S.K.F.) Nova Scotia
Branch headed by
Master Teruyuki Okazaki 8th degree Black Belt at the time, now 9th degree. The Canadian Chief
Instructor being
Sensei Frank Woon-A-Tai, 6th degree Black Belt and the Nova Scotia Chief Instructor being Sensei
Tony Tam, 4th degree Black Belt at the time, now 5th degree.

Numerous self defense and karate seminars are conducted by Mario and used as fundraisers for non-profit
organizations.

1991-March-23rd Mario gets promoted to Black Belt 1st degree (JKA-ISKF)

1992-March-28th Mario gets promoted to Black Belt 2nd degree (JKA-ISKF)

1993 Mario is trained by James MacFarlane in the use of Pressure Points.

In October 1994, Mario participates in the I.S.K.F. Nationals Championsip and won the 2nd place in Kumite (sparring)
with the Nova Scotia Provincial Team. (Québec Provincial Team won 1st place)

1995-March-17th, Mario gets promoted to Black Belt 3rd degree (JKA-ISKF).

December 1995, Mario opens another Dojo, this time in Pubnico, NS.

October 1997, Mario returns to the RCMP Training Academy and gets certified as a Public & Police Safety Instructor
(Street Survival Instructor)and returns to Yarmouth.

In November 1999, Mario leaves the JKA-ISKF-NS to join the International Karate Association (I.K.A.) headed by Grand
Master Takayuki Kubota, 10th degree Black Belt.
Kancho Takemasa Okuyama, 8th degree Black Belt is the Canadian
Chief Instructor and visits Yarmouth once a year for seminars.

2000-March-14th, Mario is promoted to the 4th degree Black Belt level and is also appointed by Kancho Okuyama as
the I.K.A. Chief Instructor for Nova Scotia. Mario is also the Chief Instructor for the Yarmouth and Pubnico Dojo.



October 1st, 2003, Mario opens a new Dojo in Tusket, Nova Scotia at " L'Ecole Secondaire Par-en-Bas" which also
becomes the very first
"bilingual" karate school in the Province.

October 11th, 2003, Mario is certified as instructor level I & level II in the Crisis Management and Weapon Retention in
the Kamekan Jujitsu System under Renshi Anthony Carpentieri.

November, 2003, Mario is certified as a
TASER Instructor for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

June 4th, 2004, at the Atlantic Police Academy is Summerside P.E.I., Mario is certified as CBRN First Responder  PC4
Gas Mask Instructor.

August 17th, 2004, Mario is promoted to the rank of Godan (5th degree Black Belt) in Shotokan Karate - Do

September 29th, 2009, Mario is promoted to the rank of Corporal with the R.C.M.P.
